AUTUMN QUARTER

Coming to UW, I was absolutely certain that I wanted to major in Bioengineering. However, after attending a HuskyADAPT workshop, I am not so certain anymore. At the workshop, I got the chance to learn about inclusive design and how to make toys more accessible for children with special needs. The workshop made me realize how much I value thinking about inclusive design in all the spaces that I am present in. Now, I want to explore other major options such as Human Centered Design and Engineering where I can focus on making technology more accessible through better design. I am now reflecting more on what major might be the right fit for me and how I can explore different activities to find the right fit.

After I got the results of my Chem 142 midterm back, I was heartbroken. I thought I had studied for it, but it turned out that it wasn't enough. I met up with an academic coach to talk through some strategies to better manage my time. My conversation with the academic coach helped me reflect on my strengths and weaknesses as a student and that reflection was crucial in guiding me on how to study for my second midterm. I completed all the worksheets, did the Aleks problems, finished the practice midterm, and reviewed my lecture notes for my 2nd midterm. It made me feel much more prepared for the second midterm and I performed much better on the second midterm than on the first one.

During one of the first few weeks of the quarter, I attended a cultural Garba event. Through this event, I was able to meet a lot of other South Asian girls on campus. This event made me realize how much I value community. With a community of people around me, I feel more at home on campus. In the future, I hope to attend more events where I can connect with South Asian people and celebrate my culture.
